practice was not discussed in great detail.
ii) In the event of marital
problems, Khuloud suggested a cooling-off period. She thought that something
like a marriage guidance advisory service should be developed. The others

Chair: Ahmed Nabil

Naser
Participants:
Khuloud Alzaabi , Abdullah Reehan
Agenda:
-Why is the percentage of divorce so high in the
UAE?
-Why are the local men getting married to other
nationalities?
-The advantages and disadvantages of getting a
divorce?
-How should we reduce the divorce rate?
Minutes:-
Ahmed Nabil started the meeting with a 2 minute
introduction“Good Morning everyone today my secretary and I are going to consult the
divorce problem with Ms.Khuload on behalf the association for Women's Rights
and Mr. Abdullah Altenaji on behalf of the family court. First, I’d like to
start by introducing myself am Ahmed Nabil the chairmen of this consulting
company this is Mr. Ahmed Nasser my secretary who’s going to start with this
meeting Mr. Ahmed please start with the point you prepared for us.’’
Ahmed Nasser started with the first point “Good morning everybody; like our chairman Mr.
Ahmed Nabil said we are going to talk about 4 main points, The first point is
the high percentage of divorce in the UAE; Ms. Khuloud since you are
representing women in our case can you tell me why the rate of divorce is high
in your opinion?”
The conversation between Ahmed Nasser and Ms. Khuloud took around 3 minutes
Ms. Khuloud Al-Zaabi answered Ahmed Nasser’s
question and replied to him with another question
“Thank you for having us here to discuss this
major problem in our society.
And the percentage of divorce is getting higher
and higher because of two main reasons; the reasons are:-
v Quick change in society ; for example families in the UAE no longer stay
together like children are not interact with their parents a lot, also parents
are counting on the maids to raise the children .
v Family interference in the couples life , and this is a main reason that can ruin
everything between the two couples .For example, The parents are poisoning the
couples minds to get divorce and let them get married again but that’s not a
solution; they just made the problem worse.
And don’t forget Mr. Ahmed that there is
another main reason which is the cultural clash when a local man marries from
other nationalities’
Ahmed Nasser
gives his opinion about Ms. Khuloud’s question
“I agree with you; some of the local men are
getting married to women from other countries which might lead to a cultural
clash which leads to divorce. The second reason is the high amount of dowry
asked for”
Ahmed Nabil redirected Ahmed Naseer’s second
point and made it a question to Mr. Abdullah Al-Tenaji asking “Since we are discussing
the high rate of dowry Mr. Abdullah why don’t the courts do a specific limit
for dowries so it becomes possible for all locals to afford it, and can you
tell us about the advantages and disadvantage of divorce”
Mr. Al-Tenaji stated his opinion and then asked for sulotions
· Thank you Mr. Ahmed for having me here today.
· Actually we are in the process of solving this problem.
And the advantages and disadvantages of divorce that you’re wondering
about:-
1. An advantage of divorce for the couples is in case of they are forced by
their family to get married; in this case better for both to get divorced if it
does not work out.
2. The disadvantage is it creates problems and hate between the two
families, Also the children are raised without one of the couple.
· However I am here to solve the problem of divorce in this meeting
because it is a serious problem; we can’t solve it in one meeting”
Mr. Ahmed Nabil
and Mr. Ahmed Nasser gave the suggested recommendations.
Suggestions:-
1- Make educational lectures to introduce the
lifestyle of married couples and the possible problems that can occur for the
two kinds male and female
2- Create a period of time for the couples to
live alone before divorce and see if they are willing to live alone without
needing the other before proceeding with the divorce.
3- Let the female and the male interact with
each other in the work place and in the educational life with respecting limits
so they learn how to act in the presence of the other”
Ahmed Nabil
ended the meeting by thanking the participants for coming and hoping they got
the answers they came looking for.
